The trip started a late evening. We were already tired, and longing to go to bed. The bus was the only alternative.
The first laughing at tired people started.
Dad and me asleep here. Next thing to do: Get on the ferry from Norway to Denmark.
Our bus was a doubledecker. Me and Tomine sat downstairs with our teacher.
We drove through the whole Denmark in only one day. Guess who was tired??
The goddamned fastfood was a must. Here's Iselin and Tomine at McDonalds.
Sweden next. We drove over "Lillebælt" and "Storebælt", the huge bridges between Denmark and Sweden. We were in Sweden for only some hours, and then we went on the boat that was going to take us to Germany. We came to Germany an eeeeearly morning, and we watched the sunrise from the bus. Oh, how beautiful!
We drove past a lot of weird things in Germany and then in Poland.
Finally we were at Krakus Hotel where we were going to sleep the next days. After one night, we were off to Auschwitz (1).
We had been told that a lot of classes that had been there before had started crying. I dont think any of us did, but it was indeed very sad to be there and we had a lot of thought afterwards. This is some of the houses inside Auschwitz and places we went...
The wall here is where the Nazis shot people. We had a flower ceremony here before we went to see the gas chambers.
Then we went to Birkenau (Auschwitz II). It actually looked quite nice in there, but after hearing the story, it wasn't so nice anymore. Here you can see the beds where the jews (and others the Nazis didn't like) slept. A guide told us horrifying stories of how this was.
The dark room is where small children slept. The other picture was taken from the "tower". You can only see the chimneys where the Nazis destroyed the houses.
The Nazis also destroyed the gas chambers in Birkenau. They didnt want people to know what they had done. If we looked really closely at the ruins, we could actually see bones. And these bones did not come from animals! At this place we had another flower ceremony.
After Auschwitz it felt pretty weird to go straight to a shopping center. But we did. Here we also had go cart.
After shopping we were kidding around with these small cars. The next day it was Krakow's turn. More shopping!
Krakow was a beautiful town. The big... building in the middle was filled with small "shops".
We had 2 days in Krakow. I must admit that my feet were hurting like hell.
Some monuments we found^^
MORE walking! This time in the salt mines somewhere in Poland.
Salt everywhere! The big hall was made out of ONLY salt. We took a picture in here of all of us.
... And the next day, on our way to Berlin, we went to Sachsenhausen... The third and last concentration camp we were going to...
The door here also said "arbeit macht frei".
"And I know one thing more -that Europe of the future cannot exist without commemorating all those, regardless of their nationality, who were killed at that time with complete contempt and hate, who were tortured to death, starved, gassed, incinerated and hanged..."
"Den norske regjering hedrer de omlag 2500 nordmenn som i årene 1940 - 1945 måtte lide under terroren i Sachsenhausen for å ha deltatt i motstanden mot de naziztiske okkupanter i Norge. Mange av dem mistet livet etter den umenneskelige behandlingen i denne leiren.
Vi lyser fred over deres minne."
"Die norwegische Regierung ehrt die etwa 2.500 Norweger, die wegen ihres Widerstandes gegen die deutsche Besatzungsherrscaft in Norwegen in den Jahren 1940 bis 1945 unter dem Terror der SS im KZ Sachsenhausen leiden mussten. Viele von ihnen verloren in diesem Lager infolge der unmenschlichen Behandlung irh Leben.
Wir bewaren ihnen ein ehrendes Angedenken."
And now.... On our way to BERLIN! =D
I dont even remember the name of every building. But it sure was really nice to drive through Berlin and see all of these famous things.
And then.... Shopping!! We needed more than one day in Berlin, I think. But we only had 4 hours or something.
